Abel joined the Jan Lab at UCSF while a resident where he focused on scRNAseq analysis projects. He is a current neurotology fellow specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, balance, and  lateral skull base disorders in children and adults at the Mass Eye & Ear. As a surgeon-scientist, his scientific focus is on the combined application of molecular and computational biology techniques to understand inner ear development and to discover new therapies for age-related and noise-induced hearing loss.
